This section brings together the main outputs and results developed throughout the Forest EcoValue project.
These resources are available as a permanent project repository and can be used as a reference for future initiatives in the field of sustainable forest management, provided that the Forest EcoValue project, co-funded by the Interreg Alpine Space Programme 2021–2027, is appropriately acknowledged.
1. Methodologies and Tools.
Methodologies and practical tools developed to assess Forest Ecosystem Services and support the design of sustainable valorisation models.
Operational guidelines supporting the assessment of Forest Ecosystem Services, the feasibility analysis of payment schemes, and the development of business models adaptable to different territorial contexts.
Available in English and in all project languages, the guidelines are complemented by an Excel-based decision-support tool that identifies the most suitable business models for the valorisation of Forest Ecosystem Services. The tool matches territorial characteristics with available business models, providing a ranked list together with an overview of their strengths and limitations.
A collection of successful case studies developed to inform and support forest owners interested in Forest Ecosystem Services and Payments for Ecosystem Services.
The publication highlights successful experiences while identifying enabling conditions and key success factors that facilitate the replication and implementation of these approaches in different territorial contexts.
Methodological guidance and economic tools supporting the assessment of Forest Ecosystem Services and the development of business models, including value transfer methods, decision-support models and the Business Model Canvas.
Methodological framework for identifying, analysing and mapping Forest Ecosystem Services through indicators, datasets and assessment models applicable at territorial scale.
Analysis of economic valuation methods, market approaches and governance conditions required to establish sustainable Forest Ecosystem Services markets and payment schemes.
2. Living Lab Pilot Action
Materials developed through the pilot activities carried out in the five Alpine Living Labs.
Comprehensive overview of the pilot activities implemented across the five Living Labs, including a comparison of territorial experiences, tested valorisation models and recommendations on the transferability of the developed solutions.
Assessment and mapping of Forest Ecosystem Services across the Living Labs based on biophysical indicators, territorial datasets and assessment methodologies adapted to different contexts.
Economic valuation of Forest Ecosystem Services, market potential analysis and development of business models and implementation scenarios for the pilot territories.
Comparative analysis of the Living Lab experiences, highlighting developed solutions, good practices, implementation challenges and key success factors supporting transferability.
Overview of stakeholder engagement activities across the five Living Labs, including participatory approaches, engagement tools and results achieved through co-design and collaborative processes.
3. Feasibility Assessment and Future Development
Tools supporting the assessment of implementation potential and the future development of Forest Ecosystem Services initiatives.
Structured assessments developed for each Living Lab, integrating ecological, economic, operational and regulatory aspects together with development scenarios, objectives, implementation measures and business models supporting Forest Ecosystem Services.
Operational roadmaps developed together with local stakeholders, defining objectives, priority actions, business models and implementation conditions for the future development of Forest Ecosystem Services within each pilot territory.
4. Policy and Governance
Resources supporting policy analysis and the integration of Forest Ecosystem Services into public policies and governance frameworks.
Policy recommendations developed through a transnational, multi-level dialogue involving public decision-makers. The document proposes actions to support the development of Forest Ecosystem Services markets and the adaptation of existing policy and regulatory frameworks.
Comparative analysis of policies and support instruments across the countries and regions involved in the project, identifying barriers, enabling factors and opportunities for the development of Forest Ecosystem Services.
Summary of the transnational policy dialogue involving institutional stakeholders, presenting the main outcomes of the discussions together with recommendations supporting policy coordination and the future development of Forest Ecosystem Services.
5. Training and Knowledge Transfer
A set of online training modules designed to disseminate the project's knowledge and results while supporting capacity building among public authorities, forestry professionals, forest owners and all stakeholders interested in Forest Ecosystem Services.
Developed from the experience of the Alpine Region Winter School, the modules provide a clear and progressive introduction to the main concepts of Forest Ecosystem Services through short thematic videos combining theoretical background with practical examples.
The training materials are available through the project's dedicated YouTube channel and are organised into four modules:
• Forest Ecosystem Services: Concepts and Assessment Methods
• Economic Valuation of Forest Ecosystem Services
• Business Models and Market Development
• Policy and Governance for Forest Ecosystem Services
